Help guide
Everything a teacher needs, in the order you will use it.
Start teaching
- Open the whiteboard in Chrome or Edge.
- Pick a pen at the top and write. Press P for the pen and V to select.
- Use + Page at the bottom to add pages.
Teach on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams
- Start your class in Zoom, Meet or Teams as usual. Let students join.
- Open Classora in its own window (or browser tab).
- In your video-call app press Share screen, and choose the Classora window or tab.
- Write on the board. Students see it, and they can still speak and chat in the call.
Whiteboard tools
- Pens and highlighters: choose from the pens at the top. Change colours and thickness in the pen menu.
- Shapes and text: open the shapes button for lines, arrows, rectangles and more. Draw shapes by hand and turn on shape cleanup to straighten them. Press T for text.
- Graphs: use the Graph button, type a function such as
y = x^2, and it is drawn for you. - Geometry: the geometry button adds a ruler, a protractor and two set squares. Drag one to move it and drag the round handle above it to turn it. A pen line drawn along an edge snaps straight.
- Backgrounds: lined, grid, dotted, coordinate plane, isometric dots, Cornell notes, music staff, plain white and blackboard.
- Laser, spotlight and timer: use the laser to point without marking the board. The timer is under Insert.
- Phone mode: makes pens, text and the eraser bigger.
- Undo: Ctrl+Z. Redo: Ctrl+Shift+Z.
Select and align
Choose the select tool and drag a box around things to select them. Or draw a loop with the lasso. Hold Shift and click to add or remove one. Ctrl+A selects everything.
A small bar appears. Use it to change colour, make things thinner or thicker, duplicate, bring to front, send to back or delete. When two or more objects are selected it also shows align buttons for left, centre, right, top, middle and bottom. With three or more you can space them evenly. Ctrl+D duplicates and Delete removes.
PDFs and pictures
Open Insert. Choose Import PDF as pages to turn each PDF page into a board page you can write on. Choose Image to add a picture. Use a Cover to hide an answer, then delete the cover to reveal it.
Pages
Press Pages to see thumbnails. You can add, duplicate, rename, reorder by dragging, and delete. Deleted a page by mistake? Press Ctrl+Z to bring it back.
Record a lesson
Press the red Record button and allow the microphone. Classora records the board and your voice together. Press it again to stop, and a video downloads. Upload it to YouTube. Use the screen-record button next to it to record your whole screen instead.
Save and share
Open the background button in the toolbar and choose More format options. In the panel that opens, the File box has:
- Export lesson as PDF (all pages): one PDF with every page. Good for sharing notes with students.
- Export this page or all pages (PNG): pictures of your pages.
- Save lesson (JSON): a backup file you can open again later, even on another device.
- Load lesson (JSON): opens a saved lesson.
Install the app
You do not have to install anything, but an installed app gives you an icon and opens in its own window. See the install page.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| Students cannot see the board | Check that you are sharing the Classora window or tab in your video-call app, not another window. |
| The recording has no sound | Allow the microphone when the browser asks. Check that the right microphone is selected in your computer's sound settings. |
| The PDF import is slow | Large PDFs take a while. Try fewer pages at a time. |
| The board looks small to students | Turn on Phone mode and use Full Page View. |
| The page looks old after an update | Press Ctrl+Shift+R, then close and reopen the app. |
| The lesson disappeared | Lessons are saved in the browser you used. Open the same browser, or load your backup file. |
| Autosave is full | Large PDFs and pictures fill the browser's storage. Save the lesson as a file with Save lesson (JSON). |
